Aesha Rasheed

Aesha Fadeelah Rasheed is a former journalist, publisher, organizer and now healer from Oklahoma now living in New Orleans. The OU graduate moved to New Orleans in 2000 to report for the New Orleans Times-Picayune where she covered public education at the local and state level for five years. In 2005 she left journalism to become a community organizer and education advocate while also pursuing a career as a healer and masseuse. For the past 12 years, Aesha worked to support meaningful community engagement in public education including launching and publishing the New Orleans Parents Guide to Public Schools for a decade, building parent organizing through the New Orleans Parent Organizing Network and helping launch an open-access community-led public charter school. At the same time she also built a thriving and beloved practice as a healer and body worker focused on releasing trauma and creating community ritual. In her spare time she co-produces the New Orleans Queer Cartography project which produces documentary posters for and about New Orleans LGBTQ communities.
