Oklahoma Institute for Diversity in Journalism Application

Please note, OIDJ will not host an event in the summer of 2024, but we do plan to return in summer 2025. The summer 2025 application will be available in March 2025.

What to know about applying:

The Oklahoma Institute for Diversity in Journalism is a workshop held during the summer months at Gaylord College at the University of Oklahoma designed for high school students interested in journalism.

Journalism experience is not required, but the desire to write creatively is essential. The workshop is open to all high school students, with preference given to juniors and seniors, across the country, but sponsors strongly encourage applications from students who would otherwise lack access to journalism training or who face other barriers to pursuing careers in journalism—in other words, those associated with groups of people historically underrepresented as professionals in mass communication fields. Strong consideration is given to students who understand and appreciate the value of diversity in mass media, as well as students who show an interest in learning more about this issue.

(Note: Diversity pertains to inclusion of all segments of society with respect to race, color, creed, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability or socioeconomic status.)
