The Oklahoma Institute for Duty to Journalism application link will go active here in March 2026.
Please note, OIDJ will not host an event in the summer of 2025, but we do plan to return in summer 2026. The summer 2026 application will be available in March 2026.
What to know about applying:
The Oklahoma Institute for Duty to Journalism is typically a weeklong workshop held during the summer months at the Gaylord College of Journalism & Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma designed for high school students interested in journalism.
Journalism experience is not required, but the desire to write and create media content is essential. The workshop is open to all high school students, with preference given to juniors and seniors, across the country, but sponsors strongly encourage applications from students who would otherwise lack access to journalism training or who face other barriers to pursuing careers in journalism.
When writing your application statement, strong consideration is given to students who understand and appreciate the value of telling the broad array of stories that encompass various communities, as well as students who show an interest in learning more about journalism’s duties in a democratic society.
