Lawton Community Theatre is doing a production of “Oliver!” to close out their 73rd season this weekend and the next.

The theatre is doing a production of “Oliver!” June 12-14 and June 18-21, performances will be held at the John Denney Playhouse.

“There are so many reasons to come and see the show,” Managing Director, Michael Harden said. “The first. It’s a classic. It’s a show that was written in the 1960s. The film adaptation won the Oscar for Best Picture.”

Although it’s a story that takes place a long time ago in Victorian London, Micheal said, it’s a timeless story about finding the place where we belong and finding our family and friends within that place.

“An even greater reason to come,” Micheal Harden said, “is that this group of kids and adults have worked so hard to put on a really amazing show, and to see them come together and put together a show that’s really special has been such a spectacular experience.

Harden said people who miss the show will regret it.

“”Oliver!” is an incredible story that’s been around for decades, since about the 1960s. So it is a childhood classic for many, and of course, the movie is really popular with the older generation.” Shade Linville, who is playing Bet in the production of “Oliver!”, said

Shade said that seeing an onstage version of a very beloved show could be very nostalgic for older people and that is a big reason they should come see “Oliver!”, other than it just being a really good and super fun show.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or at lawtoncommunitytheatre.com. The theatre’s next season will also include notable shows such as “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Mean Girls: The Musical.”
