Sports, arts and social life — many excel in one of these fields, but Joslin Tinline excels in all three.

Joslin, born in Duncan, is now a rising senior at Plainview High School in Ardmore. Joslin finds many ways to balance her track, theater, academic team and National Honor Society. On top of these, she also consistently maintains great grades.

She spent her time while she was younger playing outside, drawing or acting out skits with her brother in the living room of her grandparent’s house. As she would act in front of her grandparents, it created her love for theater today.

She participated in a newer play at her school called Curtains, which she defined as “a musical within a musical, but it was also a rom-com within a murder mystery because there was a murder.” In April, she acted in the Addams Family musical and played Morticia Addams. Joslin said she has plans of pursuing acting in the future

“I’ve never thought about it professionally,” Joslin said.“ I have taken my love in arts into writing. It’s why I’m here, but I intend to keep doing that because I love what I do. As a way to keep me happy, I guess you could say that because though it may not be a profession for me, it’s something I’m very passionate enough to do.”

Joslin does not take AP classes because of extracurricular activities. She serves as a student ambassador for her high school. She also helps new kids get sewn into the community to feel welcome. She also works on the side with charities that are responsible for her National Honor Society. Her community work speaks to the heart and hospitality that Joslin has for her people.

Regarding her engagement with sports, Joslin also runs track for her high school. She runs the four by 100 relay, four by 200 relay, and the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Her personal record time for the 100 hurdles is 15.88. Having a lot on her plate at school can cause stress, but Joslin said running is her form of relief. Sports has taught her how to balance her time.

Joslin having these different activities has taught her lessons on how to manage time, which she says will prepare her for college. She plans on attending the University of Oklahoma, and pursuing professional writing with the goal of becoming a novelist.

“I want to give people what has been given to me,” she said, “which is movement through words.”

With Joslin pursuing novel writing after college, she has big plans for herself in 10 years. Inspired by author J.K. Rowling and filmmaker Tim Burton, in addition to becoming a novelist, she wants to gain musical experience and reach Broadway.
